Varanga was on my to do list after I had heard so much about this awesome temple in the middle of a lake which you can reach only by boat! When I was at my aunt’s home last December, I saw it was only 30 kms from their home and decided to go there right away!
Varanga Jain temple is at least 800 years old, now a major tourist attraction for wedding photoshoots, travel vlogs, drone photographers. There are three Basadis in the area. Chandranatha Basadi, Neminatha Basadi and Kere Basadi. Kere Basadi is the prime attraction among the three, for it’s located right in the middle of a 11 acres lake and the only way to reach the place is through a boat which uniquely enriches the journey to the temple. The place is surrounded by thick dense trees in all directions. At the center of the temple are deities of Mahaveer and Padmavathi Amma. The Basadi is surrounded by little fishes and turtles on all the sides. The best part is when the fishes jump to eat the food that we give them.
A ticket should be purchased at the admin office nearby at a nominal price.
You get to spend around 15 to 20 minutes if you plan to return on the same boat or you can also request the boat rider to take you back on the next trip.

Kaup Light House
The entire coastline of the Arabian sea is a treat for all beach lovers. Of all the beaches along the coast, today I want to talk about Kaup beach which I visited last December.
One of the noteworthy thing about this beach is the lighthouse. Built around 119 years ago, to help sailors be wary of the rocky shore, is a magnificent structure to get a glimpse of the panoramic view of the waves hitting the strong rocks, line of colourful boats, green stretch of coconut trees and infinite view of the blue sea.
It’s a dreamy place for the drone photography enthusiasts given the nature of the landscape.
It’s located on the Udupi-Mangalore highway. It’s at a distance of 15 kms from Udupi and 45 kms from Mangalore.
