Uddina Hittu shortened as Udnittu, is a recipe made with Urad Dal flour, curd, ginger and green chillies. It’s a quick recipe that you can whip it up in just 5 minutes.

Urad dal powder can be store bought or made at home. To make the powder at home, sun dry urad dal and powder it to fine consistency. Optionally you can dry roast and powder as well.

  • Uddina Hittu | Urad dal powder – 3 tbsp

  • Curd | butter milk – 1 cup (preferably sour)

  • Green chillies chopped – 1

  • Ginger – 1 inch

  • Salt – as per taste

  • Chopped coriander leaves – optional (for garnish)

  • Tempering
  • Coconut oil – 2 tsp

  • Mustard seeds – 1 tsp

  • Curry leaves – 4 to 5

  • Hing – a pinch

  • Sandige Menasu – 3

  • Finely chop green chillies and ginger.
  • In a serving bowl, take curd and add uddina hittu, chopped green chillies, ginger and salt. Mix well until lump free.
  • Finish the dish with a tempering with coconut oil, mustard seeds, hing and curry leaves. Also add fried and crushed sandige menasu into udnittu. Garnish with some chopped coriander leaves.
